Re:  Health Information Protection Act (HIPA)

The privacy and protection of personal health information of band members is a priority with the LLRIB Health Services department. This is the standard procedures for all health organizations in Saskatchewan.

When you receive health services with our band health department, you have a right to expect the appropriate use and safekeeping of your personal health information. The Health Information Protection Act (HIPA), which came into force on September 1, 2003, provides rules and guidelines that govern the collection, use and disclosure of personal health information in Saskatchewan, which is strongly adhered to by LLRIB Health Services.

The health of a band member is a privacy matter and, as such, LLRIB Health Services cannot and will not share names of individual band members who may have a presumptive or positive case of the COVID-19 virus.

We also want to encourage the band membership to be thoughtful and sympathetic to those who may contract the virus. Nobody is immune to it and it could be any of us or our family members who can get affected. We also recognize the significant strain that COVID-19 has placed on individuals and families, so it important we come together as a community and provide positive support for one another.

Again, as a collective group, we want to assure the LLRIB membership that we are working very hard on your behalf during this challenging and unprecedented time.

Respectfully,

LLRIB Emergency Control Group
