Dear Lac La Ronge Indian Band Members:

Update on LLRIB Treaty 6 Agricultural Benefits Claim (Cows and Plows)

This is an update with respect to the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s (“LLRIB”) claim for Agricultural Benefits (also known as ‘Cows and Plows’) pursuant to Treaty 6.

Chief and Council are pleased to announce that LLRIB has received a formal offer of settlement from Canada and is now working on a final settlement agreement with Canada.

Chief and Council have appointed a Settlement Planning Committee (SPC) to engage with LLRIB members as to the use of the settlement funds, and then to recommend a settlement financial plan to Chief and Council.

The SPC will be holding community meetings the week of April 21st, 2024, to obtain feedback from membership on how the settlement funds should be used. These meetings are for LLRIB members only. The meetings will not be live streamed, and cellphones/recording devices will not be allowed.

Once the financial plan and settlement agreement are complete, a ratification date will be set where LLRIB membership will vote to decide if they accept the settlement and financial plan.

Thank you for your patience, respectfully,

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson
