The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is now inviting applications for the following full-time term position (1 year) based out of La Ronge:
Youth Justice, Employment & Recreation Worker
The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:
• Recruit initial youth and additional participants;
• Provide individualized services through a case management model;
• Organize and implement cultural activities and event(s), educational activities, employment opportunities, recreational activities and volunteer activities;
• Approach Elders and mentors to provide positive mentoring and assist in cultural reclamation activities;
• Engage through one-on-one and group contact to establish positive relationships;
• Assisting the youth to identify strengths/interests, internal and external resources including potential support person (i.e. family and community members) to address identified criminogenic risk areas;
• Holding the youth accountable for their choices and actions by appropriately challenging antisocial or pro-criminal behavior, and encouraging person responsibility;
• Establishing/re-establishing attachments with family and community;
• Facilitating frequent and meaningful activities between the youth, the family and other natural supports;
• Address know criminogenic risks areas (education, employment, family circumstances, companions, antisocial patterns, pro-criminal attitudes, leisure, substance use/abuse, self-management, residence, instability, and financial instability).
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Diploma in Mental Health and Wellness or related field.
• 3-5 years of related experience
• A combination of education and/or work experience with families, children, and youth will be considered
• Understanding of cultural diversity and community-based services.
• Current CPR and First Aid Certificate considered an asset
• Working knowledge of disability and wellness programs, applications, including the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of wellness
• Demonstrated sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management
• High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis and reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons or facts
• Written and communication skills
• Organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
• Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle
• Excellent organization and time management skills.
• Must be able to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver’s Abstract
