About the facility: LLRIBHS promotes health in our communities for the wellbeing of all members. We provide accessible, high quality health services and programs. Together with others, we work to build capacity and educate as we address both acute needs and determinants of health. The IRS Program is located on Morins Hill in the Silver Cultural Building.
About the position: The IRS Counsellor is responsible for the provision of counselling, support, referral and education services in the field of IRS. This position requires living a health lifestyle and being familiar with the Woodland Cree Culture. The emotional support component and the role is to provide eligible former IRS students and their family members with access to emotional support and safety address issues related to IRS experience.
- Provide counselling to former IRS students and their family members that have been impacted by residential schools;
- Provide and assist in translation process (Cree/English) when requested;
- Provide frontline counselling and emotional support to eligible former IRS students and their family members in all phases of the IRS experience;
- Provide referrals to previously established frontline healing and wellness community workers;
- Model self-care plan that reflect a healthy traditional lifestyle (e.g. living off the land, working with Elders, traditional ways of healing of healthy practices);
- Maintain individual records of clients, including services provided ensuring that these records are safely locked & stored to ensure confidentiality;
- Provide IRS information and resource materials to communities when requested.
Qualifications: Minimum BSW/BISW or Bachelor’s Degree or relevant Human Rights Services Degree with a minimum of 3 years Counselling experience; Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including Microsoft Outlook; Excellent verbal & written communication skills and Public Relations skills; Ability to speak & understand Cree is an asset; Ability to work in a dynamic environment, as part of a team and with minimal direction; Excellent organizational and communication skills; Must have a Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
