About the position: Indian Residential School (IRS) Cultural Workers are qualified health professionals that work under the supervision of the IRS Supervisor. They play a role as being emotional support liaisons to former IRS students and their family members to safely address their issues related to the IRS experience.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the provision of support, referrals, translation, cultural and education services in the field of Indian Residential Schools;
  • Build networks and relationships with multiple groups at the national, regional and community levels while promoting awareness of the IRS resolution Health Support program and IRS issues;
  • Assist communities in capacity building to address impacts of Indian Residential Schools;
  • Work closely with other healthcare teams in organizing events;
  • Visit communities to provide resource material and establish community networks and local support for IRS survivors;

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Social Work or Diploma in Justice Studies or Human Studies field;
  • Strong verbal, written communication and public relations skills;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, as part of a team and with minimal direction;
  • Ability to speak/understand Cree and knowledge of Cree Culture is required;
  • Experience working within a First Nations’ organization and/or past experience as a residential school survivor a definite asset;
  • Strong organizational skills and problem solving skills a definite asset;
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s license;
